Goresbridge-based trainer Mags Mullins was all smiles at Sligo on Thursday as Dundrum Lad won the Harrington Concrete And Quarries Handicap Hurdle.

The JP McManus-owned gelding hadn’t run in almost a year, but the lack of a recent run proved no barrier, as he won well under Jody McGarvey.

The winner was well-punted all day and returned a 6-1 shot.

Meanwhile Davy Russell is having a lot of luck in the marron and white of Gigginstown House Stud lately and the Cork native partnered the Joseph O’Brien-trained Hardback to an opening race success at Sligo for the powerful owners in the Clayton Hotel Maiden Hurdle.

Sent to post a 16-1 shot, Hardback came home stronger than anything, and held the runner-up Silver Star narrowly at the winning line.
