Having missed out on a play-off spot to get out of Division 2A in 2015, Carlow pushed for promotion and made their second-place finish in 2016. Defeat on the last day of the season, followed by a play-off defeat at the hands of Suttonians means the men from Oak Park will be doing it all over again in Division 2A this season.

There’s been a coaching shift too with former Kilkenny mens and womens coach Steve Ashmore taking the reins of a team that will look to be there-or-thereabouts come the end of the season. Like Tullow, Carlow finished out with 9 wins from 14, picking up 11 bonus points along the way.

They’ll need to target at least that again this season if they’ve got serious promotion ambitions to get themselves back in the Division 1 mix. Here’s how Carlow’s fixtures look for the season ahead.
