Tinryland pip Rathvilly to become Under 21 Football Champions

Tinryland are the Carlow under 21 ‘A’ football champions after a one point win over Rathvilly in a top class final.

Tinryland started briskly with Niall Lowry pointing, Rathvilly were slow to start however with fourteen minutes gone they set the place alight with a Conor Doyle goal as Rathvilly held a two point lead 1-3 to 0-4 at the break.

Tinryland came out with all guns blazing a point from James McGrath a goal from Marcus Lawlor and another McGrath point enabled Tinryland to lead by 1-6 to 1-3 four minutes in to the last period.

Rathvilly responded quickly two points from Conor Doyle and the leveller from Darragh Murphy had the sides tied at 1-6 all turning in to the last quarter, James McGrath and Conor Owens traded points and Darragh Murphy edged Rathvilly ahead 1-8 to 1-7 as the clock ticked down.

Two minutes of additional time was announced. Rathvilly with the last throw of the dice moved fast and won a free in which was converted as the sides were level at 1-8 each.

The two minutes had elapsed as people were leaving their seats after seeing a good drawn game, however play continued and Tinryland came through one more time and won a free thirty metres out which James McGrath sent over for the winner on a Final Score of Tinryland 1-9, Rathvilly 1-8.

There was great displays of football from all the players on both teams none more so than Conor Doyle he was Rathvilly’s top scorer for the championship with 2-7 from three games,while James McGrath is the under 21 overall top scorer with 1-18 from three games.
