World Cup 2018: Ireland to face Denmark in European Play-Offs

Well, now we know.

Having overcome Wales thanks to James McClean’s wonder-goal in Cardiff earlier this month, Ireland will now face Denmark in the play-offs for a spot at next year’s FIFA World Cup. Ireland (now 26th in the FIFA rankings) were unseeded heading into the draw, qualifying as one of the best placed runners up in the European Qualifer group stages.

Denmark finished runners up to Poland in UEFA Group 3 having picked up six wins from ten and clocking up 20 goals in the process, dropping losses to Poland and Montenegro in October of last year.

Ireland will travel to Copenhagen to face Denmark on Saturday 11 November with the return leg in Dublin on Tuesday 14 November.

Elsewhere, Northern Ireland will face Switzerland, Croatia battle Greece while Sweden get a chance to avenge their Euro 2016 defeat at the hands of Italy.

Republic of Ireland supporters will be able to purchase tickets to the home leg of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Play-Off involving Martin O’Neill’s team from Friday, October 20. A public sale of tickets for the home leg will begin at 11:00am, with prices starting at €30 for adults and €20 for kids – excluding booking fees.

Applications for the away leg can be submitted via the Away Ticketing System on Thursday, October 19 – http://away.fai.ie

FAI Season Ticket holders, Club Ireland members and Jack Charlton Lounge patrons can avail of an exclusive pre-sale period starting on Wednesday, October 18 at 11:00am. This pre-sale is only for the home leg.

The home leg is included in the 2017/18 FAI Season Ticket package – the pre-sale refers only to ST holders purchasing extra tickets.
