Former hurler John Power says their is a determination within John Lockes to go an extended run in the Club Championship.
The Callan Club reached the All-Ireland Junior Final back in 2011, and John says the squad and management are very focused on doing as well as they can in the Club Championship.
“Ah sure yeah, well that was it and they faltered in the All-Ireland stages (in 2011). The Cork Team knocked them in the All-Ireland so I think they are very focused on trying to get back to the All-Ireland Final and winning it this time.
“I suppose it’s dangerous to be talking about All-Ireland Finals before the first round on Saturday but it’s a stepping stone towards it.
“I think the management and the club in general now would love to rectify that we fell short in the final and it would be great for the club,” he said.
John was also speaking about Sunday’s Kilkenny Senior Hurling Final and feels that James Stephens might have the edge.
“I would slightly favorite James Stephens. A comrade of mine Peter Barry is involved in James Stephens and I think he is after instilling a calmness and a toughness and a resilience and he is after putting in a belief into the younger players in James Stephens and I think it will have a big part to play in Sunday’s Final.
“Peter is a wonderful coach and he has a great manner, I think it is going to tell in their performance on Sunday, they have a sprinkling of Under-21s and younger talent there as well and with the Peter Barry factor been involved it would tilt the scales for me,” he concluded.
