Carlow Senior Football Captain John Murphy says he won’t always need to be vocal despite been awarded the captaincy ahead of the start of the National League.

Speaking to KCLR, John says there are plenty of leaders on the panel.

“I’d say I would be low-key enough now as Captain and kind of would be the same as I was in any other year really.

“If I need to stand up and talk, I will talk, but I am not going to do it for the sake of it really.

“That’s what I will try and do anyway. You look in the dressing room, there are lots of leaders in it.

“You have Darragh(Foley), you have Daniel St. Ledger, you have (Shane) Redmond, you have Brendan Murphy, (Sean) Gannon, Kieran Moran, lots of guys there, that are well able to stand-up and talk and they do stand-up and talk so I am just going to play along and see how it goes,” he said.

Meanwhile London Senior Football manager Ciaran Deely says they are heading into the start of the National League more in hope than expectation.

Speaking to KCLR, Ciaran says not having a pre-season tournament to compete in leaves them at a disadvantage.

“If you look at all the professional football teams, they will play a certain amount of friendly games in their pre-season.

“The biggest problem for us is all the other teams do have competitive games and I think that’s a real problem within the GAA.

“For us, obviously fitness and sharpness and just that little bit of competitive play is missing in our first few games so in general we go into the League with a little bit of hope rather than expectancy,” he said.

It’s sure to be an interesting battle tomorrow and we have Full Live Commentary thanks to EPT from Ruislip at 1pm.
