St. Patricks Ballyragget manager Jim Lyng says it’s important to get a victory in their opening League victory on Saturday evening against Carrickshock as it’s such a tough group.

Speaking to KCLR, Jim says it will be an incredibly difficult group.

“For ourselves and indeed I suppose for Carrickshock likewise, they came up the year before us, getting two points on the board is very very important”, says Lyng.

“We are in quite a strong group. The four teams – Carrickshock, Mullinavat and the Village and James Stephens – all played at the latter stages of last years competition. There was very little between them, so the ‘Boro and the Village contested the final.”

“We are very much aware that all the games are going to be incredibly difficult and it will be a fantastic start for us if we could get a win on Saturday. But I am sure Carrickshock will view it the same way.”

The start of the league

This year’s St. Canice’s Credit Union Senior Hurling League gets underway on Saturday.

James Stephens and Mullinavat meet in Hugginstown to get things underway at 2pm, follow by Rower Inistioge v Bennettsbridge in Thomastown at 4pm. St. Patrick’s and Carrickshock meet O’Loughlin’s at 6.30pm. At the same time, Erins Own and Ballyhale Shamrocks face off in Group A at Pairc Sheamuis Stiophan.

Sunday sees O’Loughlin Gaels and Danesfort in action at Palmerstown at 1pm while Clara and Dicksboro meet in Gowran at 3.30pm.
