Jack Kavanagh: We were the better team in both halves as Carlow’s destiny is back in their own hands.

Carlow’s destiny back in their own hands and Jack Kavanagh is optimistic heading in the latter stages of the Joe McDonagh Cup.

“We knew after losing the tantrum above in Antrim that we’d have to look after our side of things and see how it went from there”, says Kavanagh in speaking to KCLR after Saturday’s clash.

Carlow finished the game with 10 points to spare as they saw off Laois on a 2-25 to 2-15 scoreline.

“It was a great win, a great day for Carlow hurling and now we move on to next week.”

“We knew at half time we probably should have been seven or eight points up. We were here last year in the same position, went in level at half time, came out and lost the game.”

“I’m savagely impressed by how we came out in the second half, handled it and pushed on. We’re fully deserving of the two points and were the better team in both halves.”

“We need everyone now at home in Carlow – it’s a semi-final, to get to Croke Park, please God everyone comes out and supports us and gets us over the line.”

Carlow’s fifth round clash sees Westmeath make the trip to Netwatch Cullen Park this coming Saturday afternoon at 3pm. The footballers will have their turn with Laois in Croke Park on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.

Carlow: Brian Tracey; Alan Corcoran, Paul Doyle, Michael Doyle; Diarmuid Byrne, David English, Richard Kelly; Jack Kavanagh, Kevin McDonald; John Michael Nolan, Paul Coady, Edward Byrne; James Doyle, Denis Murphy, Chris Nolan.

Laois: Enda Rowland; Joe Phelan, Leigh Bergin, Colm Stapleton; Padraig Lawlor, Matthew Whelan, Ryan Mullaney; James Ryan, Cian Taylor; Patrick Purcell, Neil Foyle, Ben Conroy; Ciaran Comerford, Stephen Maher, Willie Dunphy.
