Kilkenny Senior Hurling manager Brian Cody says they are playing catch-up on Galway as they turn their attention to their Leinster Final clash on 1st July.
Speaking to KCLR after Saturday night’s victory against Wexford, Brian says Richie Hogan will have benefited greatly from getting much needed game time on Saturday night.
“Ah we are delighted to be back in a Leinster Final for certain, but I mean do we have any illusions about the task facing us? no.
“It’s a true reflection of the game the last day, that’s how good they are and I mean we are playing catch up with Galway and that’s fair enough, but its going to be a terrific role in the development of our team.
“No matter how experienced you are and how skilful or how everything else you are, getting back to the pace on match days is not simple for anybody,” he said.
Meanwhile former Limerick Senior Hurler Ger Hegarty says that Brian Cody will relish the challenge of going into the Leinster Final against Galway as Underdogs.
Speaking to KCLR, Ger says there is no pressure on Kilkenny as Galway are well clear of the chasing pack.
“I can’t see anybody toppling Galway, but for me Brian Cody’s team will certainly go into that match to win it and I think they will bring a huge Kilkenny following to Dublin.
“They will be going in as the underdogs to that match which he will relish. Galway to me are so conditioned and so physically strong and they have that monkey off their back with the winning of the All-Ireland last year.
“It’s very difficult to see Kilkenny beating them in the Final, but either way, Kilkenny will put in a massive performance in two weeks time and whether they beat them or not, you are looking at either a Semi-Final of the All-Ireland or a Quarter-Final and they will be placed, and each game is bringing on that Kilkenny side,” he said.
