Kilkenny football manager Christy Walsh says his side tired very quickly after chasing Galway from the off in Nowlan Park on Saturday.

The Cats endured a 2-22 to 2-08 defeat in the All-Ireland Junior Championship semi-final, having claimed the British junior championship last month.

Speaking to KCLR after the game, Christy says they were constantly chasing the game.

“We just weren’t up to the pace from the start “, says Walsh.

“While we were on all week about getting a good start, and you’ve got up to the pace of these games whether it’s hurling or football championship matches, we didn’t.”

“We were chasing, we were reacting to their movements the whole time. We were reacting the whole time and you get tired after that.”

“If we were doing that all day, you get tired quicker and they were scoring every time as well so their was something positive in everything they were doing.”

Despite trailing by 3 points in the opening five minutes, Kilkenny found the back of the net to equalise and settle the nerves.

The early goal did nothing to displace Galway’s drive however, the Tribesmen leading comfortably at the break and running out 14 point winners to set up a final with Kerry in two weeks time.
