If you talk to Jeffrey Lynskey, he’ll tell you this year’s minor Leinster final between Kilkenny and Dublin was a once off.
Thirteen goals went in on the day, with six of them ending up in the back of the Kilkenny net. Dublin claimed the crown from a near-cert Kilkenny side on a 6-19 to 7-12 scoreline.
Lynskey, however, believes their defensive frailties shown on the day are in no way a reflection of their actual abilities.
Galway Minor Hurling manager Jeffrey Lynskey says the recent Leinster Final between Dublin and Kilkenny was a once-off and Kilkenny’s defensive frailties that day where they conceded 6 goals is in no way a reflection of their abilities.
Speaking to KCLR this week, the Galway minor boss says that Kilkenny have displayed plenty of attacking potential to date to prove that Sunday’s game will be a huge challenge.
“We played them (Kilkenny) in a challenge kind of around Easter time”, says Jeffrey Lynskey.
“I was at the Leinster Final, again impressive, an impressive forward division racking up high scores.”
“That game was probably just a once-off with the heat and the size of the pitch in Portlaoise.”
“Thurles is a different venue entirely, a bigger pitch, surface is probably better than the one in Portlaoise and it’s going to be a huge challenge for us on Sunday against Kilkenny.”
Kilkenny and Galway serves as the curtain-raiser for Kilkenny and Limerick this Sunday. Tickets for the double header are available from usual outlets, priced €30/25/5.
The Cats throw-in at 12pm against Galway for a spot in this year’s All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship semi-finals.
