John Lockes manager John O’Neill says that Saturday’s Intermediate clash against Mooncoin is a Championship battle with neither team winning their opening two matches.

The Callan club side were beaten by St. Martin’s 3-9 to 0-15 on the first day of league campaign all the way back in April. They salvaged a point against Young Irelands when the league resumed earlier this month, that game wrapping 1-17 apiece.

Mooncoin dropped a 1-22 to 0-17 defeat to Young Irelands on the first day of the league and lost their second on the trot, going down 1-19 to 2-13 at the hands of unbeaten Lisdowney last time out.

Speaking to KCLR, John was delighted with the test they got in their last game against the Gowran side.

“Preparations are going very well at the moment. We had a draw the last day against Young Irelands, tough battle”, says O’Neill.

“Young Irelands are a fair old outfit. They are physically strong, so it was a good test of intermediate hurling.”

“It’s more or less a championship game now Saturday, a big battle with Mooncoin. It has always has been a traditional battle between the two of us down through the years so I don’t think this will be any different.”

John Lockes travel to Mullinavat to face Mooncoin this Saturday at 4pm in round 3 of the Michael Lyng Motors intermediate hurling league (group B).
