Carlow IT Hurling manager DJ Carey says it’s a mockery the way that 3rd level hurlers are been treated with matches in the Fitzgibbon Cup been played in between rounds of matches in the National League.
Speaking to KCLR, DJ says the tight scheduling of matches been played in both competitions is creating unnecessary problems.
He said “I am coming in from the outside so it’s no real skin off my nose, but I suppose the skin off the players involved might be on scholarships and to the colleges that are involved, they are investing in the players as well as their education and then to be told well they are not allowed to play because their is League matches coming up on Sunday.
“It will certainly make a mockery that some players, and if a team is to win a Fitzgibbon Cup, whatever team wins a Fitzgibbon Cup, with their Inter-County players involved, they could possibly have seven or eight matches within a three to four week period which is absolute madness”.
