Former Clare Senior Hurling Manager and Selector Mike McNamara says that having a panel is important in order to win silverware with the greater amount of games been played.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of Sunday’s clash at home to Kilkenny in Ennis, Mike says that games coming thick and fast makes it a more demanding process.
He said “The hurling with the format has gone strange with no relegation from the League would imagine it would take from it, but it hasn’t taken from it”.
“The attitude of Tipp against Clare and Kilkenny against Cork in particular will come to mind as big clashes that one would rarely have had in January or February or indeed March for that matter”.
Mike said “Trying to settle on a team and trying to see what you have, we are now gone into an era where we need a panel more than teams. Every team now that hopes to be successful have to have a panel of at least 24 to contest the way the matches are coming particularly in the Championship”.
