Ballyhale Shamrocks Senior Hurling manager Henry Shefflin says the youngsters stood up to the challenge superbly in Saturday’s All-Ireland Club Semi-Final victory over Ballygunner.
Speaking after the game, Henry says that Eoin Cody in particular stood out.
He said “I think we said it after Christmas, we said we wanted the panel pushing hard, and he (Eoin) was one of the members that stuck his hands up and I think Mark Aylward coming in as well”.
“Mark and Eoin was a very tight call, Eoin had a serious battle with his marker Eddie Hayden and obviously the one thing about Eoin we said it during the week, if he gets a chance he would probably take it, that’s what he did”.
Regarding the age profile of the team, Henry said “I don’t think people realise Dean (Mason) is 18, Darren (Mullan) is 20, Evan (Shefflin) is 19, Eoin (Cody) is 18, Adrian (Mullan) is 19 so they are very young players still”.
