Kilkenny Under-20 Hurling Manager DJ Carey says the GAA should have consulted Under-20 managers throughout the Country about the way that Schools Competitions and the upcoming Leaving Certs are having an effect on preparations ahead of the Championship.

Speaking to KCLR, DJ they are unlikely to have many training sessions ahead of their Leinster Championship opener in June.

He said “Most of them were involved with Kierans College and Castlecomer (Community School) so we haven’t seen them at all, and possibly we will only see them for a couple of weeks because obviously the last 5 weeks with the Kilkenny Under-20s, they have been back with the clubs so we will see them for a couple of weeks and then they go and do their Leaving Cert and three of our players won’t be finished until the 21st of June and we play on the 26th (June) so I am not sure what the GAA were really thinking of or half the time what they think of when they bring in Underage or competitions and changed competitions”.

“I wish they would consult management of teams throughout the country so that they would actually be able to put their own knowledge of this to it” he added.
