IT Carlow & Wexford GAA join forces to work on research & development in sport

Wexford GAA & Institute of Technology Carlow are delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between both parties with the intention of undertaking joint research and development programmes, the provision of specialised higher education programmes and the development of an internship programme to promote individual development.

It is intended that the strategic collaboration will lead to joint research and development programmes in areas such as sport science, management and governance, health science and sport and exercise management.

A separate internship programme, aimed at developing the graduate attributes advocated by the Institute and harnessing the Wexford GAA mission, will promote individual development and well-being and enable members to achieve their full potential in their chosen roles.

Speaking at the signing prior Wexford’s Leinster Senior Football championship game, Declan Doyle, Vice-President for Development and Research, Institute of Technology Carlow said, “We are delighted to bring the two biggest educational brands in the south east together to promote education, wellbeing and community.

This collaboration makes complete sense considering the high number of current students and graduates who play at club and county level in Wexford, our Institute’s reputation for sporting excellence and strong local presence through our Wexford campus. We look forward to a strong partnership”.

Wexford GAA Chairman Derek Kent expressed his delight at partnering with Institute of Technology Carlow, stating that “Wexford GAA aims to be the lead sporting organisation in promoting core community values as well as the physical, mental and social wellbeing of our county.

“We are committed to using our profile to create future leaders in sport, community and business life by engaging, educating, and connecting, all audiences across Wexford. We aim to set the standard among sporting associations in the South East and are delighted to partner with IT Carlow who share our vision and have created a strong link to County Wexford. We look forward to developing a partnership that will be of benefit to our youth.”
