Old Leighlin and Tinryland served up a real championship encounter in the opening round of the Michael Lyng Motors senior football championship at Netwatch Cullen park yesterday evening.
Old Leighlin’s Aaron Amond kicked the opening point in the 2019 championship, and
Diarmuid Walsh kicked Tinryland’s opening point.
Old Leighlin led by 0-8 to 0-4 three minutes before the break, then Tinryland came to life, Cian Lawlor narrowed the margin to three and when Diarmuid Walsh was brought down in the square Danny Moran made the net shake from the resultant penalty to level the sides at half time Old Leighlin 0-8, Tinryland 1-5.
Ten minutes remaining the sides were deadlocked and it was two superb 45 metre frees from Seanie Bambrick that swung Victory Old Leighlin’s way.
Final score – Old Leighlin 0-11, Tinryland 1-7
In the Talbot Hotel Intermediate Football Championship Eire Og defeated Grange by five points, Eire Og 0-15, Grange 0-10.
