Ballinkillen Hurling Chairman Brendan Leen says that Carlow will never progress unless the Club scene is protected.
Ballinkillen’s scheduled Senior Hurling Semi-Final clash against St. Mullins was postponed on Sunday due to a number of players been involved playing football for Kildavin-Clonegal on Saturday night, and speaking to KCLR, Brendan says the club scene within the county is needlessly neglected.
He said “Unless the club game is protected and nurtured Carlow is not going to continue to progress, we have to at some point make a stand for Carlow hurling and it is a dual county here in Carlow, we only had 5 out of 52 weeks and they need to be cast in stone and we probably need to try and develop and grow the club game rather than penalising clubs in this way”.
Meanwhile Carlow GAA has reiterated that it will be making no further comment on the process relating to last Sunday’s senior hurling semi final.
Ballinkillen did not fulfil the fixture citing player welfare as the reason.
The county board says its ruling has been directly communicated to the club and as the process in ongoing it won’t be commenting further.
