With two Kilkenny players shortlisted for the 2015 Hurling Player of the Year award, the odds were stacked in favour of this year’s All-Ireland champions to take back the award to Kilkenny and as many expected, TJ Reid has been crowned this season’s best, his first time to pick up the honour.
Reid scored 1-07 in Kilkenny’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final victory over Galway, part of a 4-32 haul in this year’s championship campaign.
Last year’s winner Richie Hogan and Séamus Callanan were also in the running.
TJ now joins Michael Fennelly, this year’s Man Of The Match in the All-Ireland final and now-retired Henry Shefflin as the third Ballyhale Shamrocks clubman in five years to take home the award.
Dublin’s Jack McCaffrey was named as the GAA/GPA Footballer of the Year. Waterford’s Tadhg de Búrca, who was named on this year’s All-Star team picked up this year’s hurling Young Player of the Year award, with the football honour going to Mayo’s Diarmuid O’Conor.
