IT Carlow Hurling Manager DJ Carey says that having familiarity within the playing group has been a very significant factor in their success this season.
The Carlow College qualified for Wednesday night’s Fitzgibbon Cup Final following a comprehensive 5-14 to 0-15 victory over Mary I of Limerick on Saturday, and speaking after the Semi-Final victory, DJ says that having a lot of players knowing one another helps greatly with the spirit within the group.
He said “Possibly, the last time we were in the Final, we hadn’t a huge amount from the one county, whereas this year, I think on the team today might have been 12 maybe from three different counties and that’s a huge spine, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that if you are not a very good player you won’t be on it even if you are from an individual county”.
“It just means that lads know each other very well, their is great spirit in there, they probably live with each other or they have grown up playing on squads, playing on county teams and that does help a lot, it just generates that great spirit”
