A lot has been said for the fighting spirit of Group B. Between all four teams we have seen some cracker games. Belgium had played Finland earlier in the day to cement their place in the top two of the group, while that coveted third place position was up for grabs, all either team needed was three points and they still had a shot to get into the next round.
Christian Eriksen proved once again how integral he is to the Danes, the man could of having a hatrick in the first 15 minutes with some great efforts outside the box. The chance seemed to galvanize the team, as Russia had to sit back and soak up the pressure. The pressure valve burst though and it was Eriksen that was at fault. Wass ran deep into the enemy territory only to be pick out by Eriksen, and before you knew it Denmark were one nil up. The first half ended with Russia struggling to get into the game, however the managers were seen getting into it down the tunnel at half time, with the burly ravishing Russian Shane O’Keeffe was seen to get the better of the minuscule Dane Declan Rafter.
The tense atmosphere only helped the game get going right from the off. Russia’s pride was hurt and they began to exert a bit of pressure of their own. Golovin charged from the left hand side with hopes of popping off a shot on his right. He certainly did, a nothing shot then created a catastrophe , as Durmisi hit the ball off his shin, setting off to sail over his keepers head. It was one all and it was game on.
Russia had the next share off chances (and howlers) but the tide was to turn in Denmarks favor once again on the 70th minute. this time Poulsen assisting Eriksen who was waiting eagerly on his own just at the penalty spot, a dangerous situation for a man of his calibre to be in. Sure enough before you could say как твой отец , Denmark were a goal ahead.
Russia tried and tried but could not blow the house down. Smolov ran nearly the length of the pitch before his legs got tired and he wasnt able to keep on target in the one v one with Schmeicel. It looked like it was not going to be Russia’s night, Miranchuk slapping the ball off the post in the dying minutes of the game, showed that there will be no time to rescue their chances of reaching the next round. Undeterred they decided they wanted to ruin Denmark’s chances of progression, a mantra of if we go down, your coming down with us.
Denmark would still have the recent last minute loss recently to Belgium in their mind, well that last minute goal will share a space in their nightmare with another last minute goal. Ozodev with a first time shot, outside the box, had beaten Schmeicel and officially knocked Denmark from the Electrocity European Fifa 20 Championship.
Both teams ended with one point, however Russia was still singing with glee, revealing in the fact they made Denmark miserable.
