Former Kilkenny Camogie player Tracy Millea says Minor Championship cancellation is “an absolute disgrace”

Former Kilkenny Camogie player Tracy Millea says that cancelling the 2020 All Ireland Minor Championship is disrespectful and a disregard to the girls that have trained hard for the competition.

A decision to cancel the competition was made in recent weeks with some of the reasons cited – a limited time-frame to get games played and the crossover between minor teams and adult inter-county teams making it impossible.

Tracy says half of the Kilkenny team were sixth year students and turned their focus to camogie during lockdown to try keep them focused and occupied.

She said it’s one of the best competitions to play in and is a crossroads in your life where you decide if you want to keep playing camogie or not:

“To me the cancellation of this competition, it’s just an absolute disgrace, I think the camogie association should reconsider it especially during the times we are in now, we need every boost we can get, especially the younger players”.

“A lot of these girls might never wear the Kilkenny jersey again, it’s a terrible shame that they’ll never get that opportunity to play in an All Ireland final or an All Ireland semi final, it’s just very disappointing”.
