Esport scholarships available in WIT

Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is the first third level institute in Ireland to launch an esports scholarship.

The five main titles included in the WIT Vikings Esports Scholarship offering are: League of Legends, Valorant, Counter Strike, Rocket League and Fifa ’20. Speaking with KCLR WIT head of sport John Windle spoke about the huge number of gamers in Ireland was a big factor behind the decision

“In Ireland there are 700,000 registered or active esports gamers or players. So in a scale its up there with soccer and rugby. We connect sports with a busy day on the pitch, but you dont realise the amount of people playing.”

WIT have also put the call out to sportspeople aged 13-17 in Co Kilkenny to apply for the WIT Vikings Sport Rising Star programme.

The WIT Vikings Sport Rising Star is an award which can be given to students in secondary school between 13 -17 years old in the south east area who have already achieved highly or show great potential in any sport.
