Kilkenny manager Brian Cody says the condensed club season was good for the county players and their teams.
The county league and championship competitions were played off on consecutive weekends over a peroid of two months.
Brian told KCLR that it was a great opportunity for players to show what they’re made of:
“This year was different for the clubs from the point of view that they had their county players available to them the whole time, they knew when they were playing and there was no interruption from the county players heading off for county training”.
“So it turned out to be very beneficial for the clubs, the club players got great opportunity to show what they’re made of, I mean there’s so many players around the county, so many players obviously that are in the county panel and also who are not in there yet, young players coming through as well, so it was terrific to see the quality that’s there” he said.
The inter-county season has come under renewed pressure due to the government’s new COVID-19 restrictions.
Under ‘level 3’ restrictions, the club championships have been put on hold.
While Monaghan, Cavan and Donegal are all to be moved onto level four coronavirus restrictions from midnight.
However, the CCCC last night rejected Fermanagh’s request to postpone their National League game with Clare.
The Erne County have seen ten players contract COVID-19, while seven others were close contacts.
