KCLR were once again there in Netwatch Cullen park but this time it was out with the club’s and in with the counties.
Carlow started off well scoring 3 unanswered points before Sligo got a goal and point to go ahead.
At half time Sligo were still ahead by a single point as the scoreboard read Carlow’s 0-09 to Sligo’s 1-07
Sligo registered a quick 1-01 in the second half, thus going six points clear. That was until Ross Dunphy scored a cracker of a goal to reduce the deficit to 3 points on the 42nd minute.
Carlow hit a purple patch, showing passion and drive which paid off as on the 50th minute Paul Broderick put Carlow a point up, to leave to score 1-14 to 2-10.
The Barrowsider’s went down to 14 men when a black card was produced by the ref on Darragh Murphy from rathvilly. Just before hand Sligo had taken a point lead and Carlow’s looked like their back was up against the wall when Palatine’s Conor Crowley buried the ball in the back of the net to see the home side go ahead by two.
Sligo still had a chance to be promoted which seemed them drive them on in injury time. It seemed to come down to a freekick that could possibly to level the match. The Connaught team had a decision to make , go for goal or go over the bar. they selected the point and the game went level.
This decision proved to be vital as Carlow kept fighting into the last seconds where amazingly able to grab two points in the dying embers of the game, which secured a victory for Niall Carew’s side.
