You know there’s a new Gaelic football game in development, right?
Well, if you were following the @gaelicfootball2 Twitter account, you’d have a good idea of it.
You’d have to go back to 2005 to check out Gaelic Games: Football on the PS2. That was followed by the immortal Gaelic Games: Hurling in 2007 which also included an official GAA hurling skills DVD don’t you know. The same year saw a sequel to the football release, but that’s about it. It’s been a barren 13 years.
Now, it looks like there’s another project in the pipeline.
Developed on the Unreal engine, the video released this week shows current progress including
- Advanced Locomotion System integrated with GAA player model
- Animations are temporary
- Kick animation implemented
- Passing system with ball prediction
- Intuitive Scoring system. When a player shoots, the success is based on the players position on the field in relation to goal and the player’s rotation. This will be expanded to include pressure from defenders and the player’s attributes. This is displayed as the green bar in the lower right corner.
- Working Scoring system
- Match Timer to be done
- Basic Player AI.
- Player Switching
No need to go rushing out to the shops or your Steam or Epic account just yet, but it’s exciting to see something like it in development all the same.
Plus you get a look at Stephen O’Brien kicking over with ease for Kerry.
