The GAA have now confirmed that no collective training for inter-county teams will be allowed until further notice.

Training was officially cleared to recommence on January 15 but it has now been put back to the end of the month at the earliest.

In a letter to county boards this morning GAA Director-General Tom Ryan cited the exceptional rise in infection rates of Covid-19 and the increased risk of community transmission as the reason for the delay.

The letter also adds that club and county team gyms must also remain closed.

*Original Article

The resumption of inter county training is set to be delayed until the end of the month at the earliest because of the COVID 19 crisis.

Panels were scheduled to return on January 15th, but as we reported  the COVID 19 crisis is likely to delay the return of any Gaelic Games activity.

Any delay would not necessarily require a shift in the calendar which will see the National Leagues resume at the end of February and the All Ireland Championship finals take place in July.

Only four days ago the GAA have released this statemnt :

“At inter-county level, it remains the case that collective training for senior inter-county panels may only recommence from January 15th. However, given the current growth rates in virus transmission, this date is under review.

For the moment senior inter-county players may train on an individual basis only in club or county owned gyms and no training is currently permitted for any other panels such as U-20 or Minor.”

With surging cases of the virus in Ireland things seem to have changed quickly in the association, we will keep you up to date with this story as it happens.
