Mick McCarthy has been sacked as manager of APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus.
He only got the job in November.
The former Republic of Ireland manager has paid the price for not being able to turn the club’s fortunes around and lasted just nine games in charge.

A short statement from the club this morning (translated from Greek) reads
“The company APOEL FOOTBALL (PUBLIC) LTD announces the end of its cooperation with coach Mick McCarthy. We wish Mr. McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor good luck.”
APOEL have lost their last four games in a row and pays the price for a run of form which saw APOEL lose 4 matches in a row to lie 11th in the Cypriot table.
McCarthy’s departure from the club comes just hours after Jack Byrne made his debut against Doxa, though his appearance from the bench wouldn’t impact the result, APOEL going down 2-1 in defeat.
Byrne has just signed a 2 and a half year deal after leaving Shamrock Rovers, whether McCarthy’s exit has an impact on that deal remains to be seen.
Terry Connor, working as McCarthy’s assistant, also leaves with immediate effect.
