With schools currently closed under Covid-19 restrictions and no clear roadmap to the recovery of sporting competitions, the GAA have stated that the Masita GAA All Ireland Post Primary Schools series will not take place this year (2020/2021).
That means the Hogan and Croke cups will not be contested this school year.
Under current Covid-19 Level 5 restrictions, all sporting events bar professional and elite sports are off with training reduced to individuals only.
While the All-Ireland series has been abandoned, there is the possibility that provincial games could take place “should the current public health situation improve sufficiently.”
Per the GAA prior to the weekend,
“We look forward to brighter days when Gaelic Games in schools can restart, and resume their unique contribution to the personal development of students, their physical and emotional wellbeing, their life skills, their sense of contentment with school life, their allegiance to school, and, consequently, the atmosphere and equanimity within each school”, says Chairman of the All Ireland Post Primary Committee, Seamus Woods.
“The contribution made by Gaelic Games at schools level reaches far above and beyond the games themselves, and that is why their place in the GAA firmament must be cherished and protected.”
