Aoife Lanigan believes that her role as Kilkenny Camogie PRO took on far more significance last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to KCLR’s Sunday Scoreline, Lanigan said that there was an added responsibility placed on her due to the fact that people were not allowed to attend intercounty games last year.

She said: “There was a little bit more pressure because you had to do more promoting and you had to let people know when the games were on because they were behind closed doors.”

Lanigan, who was crowned PRO of the Year for her work in promoting the game throughout the county, also highlighted the increase in interest amongst the general public as the senior side progressed through the All-Ireland series.

“We got a lot of interest after we beat Cork in their own backyard.

“We got a lot of support from schools and the clubs and also the television companies became very interested,” said Lanigan.

She went on to outline what her role as a PRO entails.

“You need to promote the game, tell people when the game is on and where it’s on and how you can catch all the coverage of the game.”

The Kilkenny Camogie PRO explained that there will be more content being posted on the associations social media sites throughout the coming weeks as a way of keeping camogie in people’s minds during the upcoming lull period.

“There will be a lot more promotion online over the next few months with players getting involved until intercounty games return,” revealed Lanigan.
