A new initiative in Kilkenny is seeking expressions of interest from females in regards to the coaching courses in soccer.

The key aims of the Kilkenny Recreation & Sports Partnership are to increase participation in sport, and to ensure that local resources are used to best effect. With that in mind the a budget has been secured by the local sports partnership to help fund some female only coaching modules for Kilkenny based volunteers.

The belief is that this would be a fantastic opportunity for clubs in Kilkenny to attract new female coaches to the game. With Carlow Kilkenny FC championing women in sport and more teams being added to their ranks every year, this development can be seen as a step forward for women interested in forging a career in the sport.

There has been an increased focused in a number of years in womans soccer and more opportunities have been afforded to females in both the male and female categories of the sport. This means avenues have been open for female coaches to take over the helm of mens teams just like Corinne Diacre and Renate Blindheim have done in French and Norweigian leagues respectively.

While current Chelsea ladies manager Emma Hayes was recently linked to the Wimbledon job, however she viewed the link to the job as a step down from her current role. Its hard to argue considering she has won three Women’s Super Leagues. It is encouraging though to see the game opening its doors in terms of diversity.

Local club Freebooters have put a call out for expressions of interest in a Female Only PDP 1. PDP 1 is commonly refereed to as the Kickstart program which helps coaches learn how to create structured theme based coaching sessions.
