Kilkenny star Grace Walsh in favour of “club first” this season when action returns

The Tullaroan club player says she felt the structure of last season was a big factor in Kilkenny winning the All Ireland.

Kilkenny player Grace Walsh says she “fell in love with camogie again” last year by being able to go back to train with her club.

The change of fixtures last year meant county players got to play and train continuously with their clubs before finishing the campaign and then starting with the county.

Kilkenny went on to win the All Ireland against Galway in 2020 after suffering defeat in all the finals before that going back to 2016.

Grace says the team getting to play for so long with their clubs was a factor in Kilkenny winning an all Ireland last year.

“I found why I play the game (sic), and I think that a lot of girls did the same when they went back to their clubs and that energy then was brought back into the Kilkenny set up when we were back training as a Kilkenny team,” said Grace,

“Everyone was just buzzing to be back after getting to play with their clubs again and I suppose we knew how lucky we were”

“I would definitely be for clubs first and getting to train with the clubs first” she added.

Grace had a great run of form last year which lead to her nomination for senior player of the year.
