The day that tennis fans around the country have been waiting for finally arrived on Monday.
Clubs across the country welcomed back members for the first time this year as some restrictions were lifted.
Kilkenny County & City Lawn Tennis Club were no exception to this as players flocked to the court from as early as 7am on Monday morning.
The clubs PRO told KCLR’s Sunday Scoreline how the return to play will work.
“We’re allowed play singles for an hour or doubles for an hour and a half.
“We’ve been compliant with all of the Covid guidelines as outlined by Tennis Ireland and you must book online and use the hand sanitisation stations. The clubhouse will be closed,” said Trimble.
The clubs PRO also believes that players are itching to get back onto the court.
“People are keen to go back. They can dip their toe in whenever they feel comfortable to come back and we’ve had a six-week yoga course for club members free of charge so that there won’t be too many injuries when everyone gets back playing.”
Trimble highlighted the funding that has helped the club whilst restrictions meant the club remained closed.
“There has been some funding for a lighting system that we have now. We want to maze the club a bit more eco-friendly as well as maintenance work, so we’ve needed the funding for the club.”
Trimble lamented the lack of competitions but is looking forward to the next major on the tennis calendar.
“We have junior and adult coaching coming back soon. However, we don’t have aby domestic competitions coming up, so we’ll all have to wait for the French Open which is just around the corner.”
