With the potential of 25 points on offer for the remainder of their Division 2A season, third-placed Carlow reckon they’ll need “22 of those points to be there or there abouts” at the end of the league campaign to ensure promotion back to Division 1B, that’s according to club captain Wes Shirley.
The Oak Park men are at home on Sunday afternoon to Newbridge in a must-win fixture.
There’s 25 points on offer for the rest of the season and we’re going to need 22 of those to be there or there abouts like. Portlaoise are going very strong, Railway have seemed to pick up a lot since the start of the season, getting good results on the road.
Due to an unplayable pitch last weekend Carlow were given the first weekend of 2016’s rugby action off but even with a game in hand, they’ll have their work cut out for them between now and the end of the current campaign.
Michael O’Leary spoke to Wes ahead of the game and here’s what he had to say.
