New Carlow manager Tom Mullally was “delighted” to win his first game in charge of the side following a 3-19 – 0-17 victory at home to Wicklow on Sunday.
It was the perfect start to the Division 2A league campaign for the Barrowsiders and Mullally told KCLR after the game that he was pleased with his team’s performance.
“We’re quite happy. We had a job to do today which was to beat Wicklow and get two points on the board so it’s good to see that we answered a few of the questions around touch and attitude that I had prior to the game,” said Mullally.
With new rules allowing for seven substitutions in this year’s league, Mullally was able to use his panel in an effort to introduce fresh legs. The former Mount Leinster Rangers manager was satisfied with how he could use his bench in the victory.
He said: “I don’t think it was possible that everyone could have played the full 70 minutes, so we were practical in the substitutions that we made and it was good to see as many players as possible get on the pitch.”
Carlow travel to Down on Sunday in their second game of the season. Mullally is under no illusion as to the challenge that Carlow will face against the Ulster county.
“It’s never easy for any team to go to Down. Our focus is recovery and getting ready for Down.
“None of these performances are going to be great because of the nature of the preparation so we’re under no illusions of what quality we’re going to see in these early games.”
