Leinster Rugby Development Officer, Carlow man Gavin Whitney says young development players that missed out on joining Leinster underage teams will get opportunities.
Due to the pandemic, the players of age for the squads will be too old now but Leinster is looking at plans to fix that.
Gavin says these players are resilient and cant wait to get back on the pitch.
“I think people will get back to speed pretty quick because I think everyone will come up now and be excited and willing to listen and just get on with things ad catch up on themselves,” said Gavin.
“I am pretty sure that they are aware that they are after missing an awful lot of rugby and an awful lot of opportunities” he added.
Club Rugby
Regarding the return of club rugby this season, Gavin says it’s not likely that any games will be played this season and that the focus will move to next season and preparation for that.
“To be honest with you, I’d say the 2020/2021 season, there won’t be any competitive rugby but I think we can be more optimistic as we get into next season looking at September/October,” said Gavin.
“With a return of contact, we definitely would be looking to play more games, in summer we have the summer camps, all the Leinster ones have been sold out, they’ve been hugely popular” he added.
