GAA and soccer clubs in Kilkenny are set to benefit from big funding boosts with the announcement of the Cultural Facilities Capital Grant Scheme.

The objective of this scheme, operated by Kilkenny County Council,  is to respond to the need for better community, recreational and cultural facilities for community groups through the provision of a capital grant.

A €250,000 pot for funding is allocated annually, this year seeing the lion’s share of money heading to sports clubs around the county.

These include

  • Graigue-Ballycallan GAA, awarded €35,000 from an application of €36,563 to help fund a floodlight community walkway
  • Highview Athletic FC, awarded €30,000 (of €32,568) for a walkway with floodlighting
  • Bennettsbridge GAA Club, awarded €40,000 (of €45,000) towards the ongoing clubhouse development project
  • Mullinavat GAA, awarded €40,000 (of €45,000) for a walkway with floodlighting and
  • Kells Handball Club, awarded €25,000 (of €26,662) towards the redevelopment of handball courts.

Fantastic Boost

Taking to social media following the announcement, Bennettsbridge GAA expressed their delight at the news, describing the award as a ‘fantastic boost’.

“We were delighted to get the great news today that our Club is receiving a grant of 40,000 euro from Kilkenny County Council.”

“This is a fantastic boost for the club in what has been a difficult year for fundraising. Many thanks to everyone on the committee who assisted in putting the application together. Huge thanks to our local councillors Patrick O Neill and Deirdre Cullen for their input in getting the application over the line. Your hard work for the club is greatly appreciated.”

Others set to benefit from the scheme include Muckalee Community Centre who were awarded €40,000 towards the development of a community shop and café (fit out etc.) and Paulstown Development Association who will receive €40,000 to upgrade the community hall.
