Sunday’s Allianz National Hurling League Division 1 Group B game between Kilkenny and Wexford has been postponed due to a number of positive coronavirus cases in the Wexford camp.

Wexford GAA chairman Micheal Martin confirmed to South East Radio that tomorrow’s tie between the neighbours is called off due to another Wexford player testing positive for Covid-19 after two players had contracted the illness earlier in the week.

The game had been expected to go ahead despite the positive cases but has fallen foul of the pandemic. It will either go ahead on a different date or may face cancellation depending on the CCCC’s stance on the matter.

In a statement released on Saturday afternoon, Wexford GAA confirmed that they are seeking the postponement of the game along with the rescheduling of the fixture.

The statement read: “Wexford GAA wish to announce that we have requested a postponement of our Allianz League senior hurling game against Kilkenny, due to take place tomorrow.

“This follows further testing of the senior hurling panel on Friday 21st May, which have shown that one further member of the panel has tested positive of Covid-19. Following receipt of these results at lunchtime today and further consultation with public health officials, it was agreed that there was a possibility of transmission with the squad and players will restrict movements until further testing next week.

“The CCCC have confirmed that the game will not go ahead tomorrow and will consider our request for a re-fixture on Monday.”
