Kilkenny Rugby Club says they hope to have a women’s team back playing in the league soon and are working towards it.
The numbers of girls playing at the club dwindled over recent years however they’re now seeing over 70 minis taking part at the weekends and girls teams at U14, U15, and U16.
Club PRO James Blanchfield says the adult team is training out there.
“They’re working away, keeping those girls going, keeping them in training, giving them a couple of games, a couple of challenge matches a year, they might enter the cup (competition)” said James.
“They’re not in a league yet, but the point is that a lot of the girls coming through from U18 from this year, they’re a very good team and they’re going to feed into the women’s team for next season”.
“So fingers crossed it won’t be long before we have an adult women’s team back fielding every Sunday in the club”.
