A Premier League footballer has been arrested on suspicion of child sex offences.
The unnamed player was arrested by Greater Manchester Police on Friday before being released on bail following an interview by the police.
The Greater Manchester Police released a statement saying: “Officers arrested a man on Friday July 16 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences. He is on police bail pending further inquiries.”
The player has been suspended by his club as the investigation is ongoing.
The club also said that it would help with the inquiry.
As reported by The Sun newspaper, the investigation is being led by Greater Manchester Police’s major incident team.
It stated that there was no indication of any form of activity at the player’s home following his return from the police station on Friday evening.
