Clare forward Shane O’Donnell’s intercounty season may be over due to a concussion that he suffered earlier in the year.
O’Donnell has yet to feature for Brian Lohan’s side in this year’s championship after he sustained a concussion prior to the Banner’s final league encounter with Kilkenny.
The 27-year-old has been feeling the effects of the injury for the last month and will not be available for selection on Saturday as Clare go head-to-head with Cork for a place in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final.
Speaking ahead of Clare’s Munster quarter-final with Waterford when O’Donnell was also not named on the match-day 26, Clare manager Brian Lohan said: “Concussion is obviously a very serious matter now and we abide by those rules”.
Lohan added the following after his side’s defeat of Wexford in Semple Stadium on Saturday: “Making progress so we’re just hoping that he’ll be okay, regardless of hurling but just in his own life that he’ll be okay.”
The Éire Óg clubman may also be in a race against time to feature for his club in the Clare Senior Hurling Championship. However, there is hope that he will regain full health over the coming weeks and months.
