Young Irelands Camogie Club has enjoyed plenty of success over the past five years culminating in Junior & Intermediate Championships along with consecutive Minor Championship titles in 2018 & 2019.
The extra bonus of their Intermediate & Minor titles was having a club representative to captain the county team at that particular grade, & this year the honour of captaining the county minor team for next Sunday’s All-Ireland Final showdown against Cork falls to Sarah O’Donnell who is the joint-captain along with Asha McHardy of Dicksboro.
The reason for joint captains is because last year’s Minor Roinn A Final was never played due to the second lockdown that had just begun in early October of last year.
Sarah has been instrumental in the club’s Minor titles over the past three years and she has established herself as a regular with the club’s senior team along with several of the youngsters from those Under-age winning Teams.
The Young Irelands player has been plagued by injury throughout the Summer, but she seems to be coming good at just the right time & her Wonder Point near the sideline at a critical stage in extra-time of last Saturday’s epic extra-time All-Ireland Semi-Final victory over Galway will have done her the World of good.
Also to emphasise her good form, she scored a hat-trick of goals in a minor club victory against Glenmore.
Sarah will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Dj Carey who represented Young Irelands while captaining Kilkenny to an All-Ireland Senior Hurling title against Cork back in 2003.
