The Kilkenny minor camogie team can end their 6-year wait for an All-Ireland title on Sunday when they face old rivals Cork at the LIT Gaelic Grounds (Throw-in 6pm).
The last manager to bring the Síghle Nic an Ultaigh Cup back to Noreside was Mike Wall and he is on the cusp of doing so again after returning to the role earlier this year.
Speaking ahead of the crunch tie that will bring the curtain down on an exciting 2021 All-Ireland minor championship, the Kilkenny manager referenced the recent defeats to Cork in different grades as potentially heightening the pressure on Sunday’s clash.
He said: “We’re looking forward to it. They got one over the U16s and they defeated the seniors in the semi-final not too long ago.
“We don’t want to be making a habit of that, so the stakes are high for Sunday’s game for that reason and obviously because it is an All-Ireland final also.”
The 2015 All-Ireland winning manager believes that there is very little to separate both counties historically.
“Down through the years Kilkenny have beaten Cork as much as they have beaten us.
“They may have won more high-profile games but you have to remember that Kilkenny have gotten the better of them in league finals and All-Ireland semi-finals in the past,” said Wall.
Wall also stressed that Kilkenny have not been consumed by Cork since they booked their place in the decider after a pulsating victory against Galway in a semi-final that was eventually won in extra time.
“It’s going to be very tight.
“We haven’t overly concentrated on them. They’ll be doing their own thing. We have to look after ourselves but Kilkenny vs Cork, especially in camogie, is a very special fixture.”
