Mount Leinster Rangers take on St Mullins on Sunday at 3.45 in Netwatch Cullen Park in the JJ Kavanagh and Sons Carlow Senior Hurling Championship final.
St Mullins are there following a 2-14 to 1-11 victory against Bagenalstown Gaels in last weekend’s semi-final, while Mount Leinster Rangers came away with a comfortable victory over Naomh Eoin.
ST. Mullins got the better of Mount Leinster rangers in the 2019 final and in three of the last four finals where they have faced each other.
On the other hand Mount Leinster Rangers ended St. Mullins reign as champions last year by defeating Ballinkillen in the 2020 final.
MLR manager Conor Phelan, who has yet to see his side lose this season, is under no illusions that this will be a tough challenge.
“It is obviously a big challenge for ourselfs. We have had decent results in the league and obviously a decent performance last Sunday. It is all Systems go but it will be a huge challenge”
“We are concentrating on our game, we have played them in the league, we have made a couple of changes in the meantime. They have some highly important players, game winners in every line of the field. For us we will try to match that, break even, go down the stretch be there or thereabout and try to get one over them!”
“This is my third year involved. The club and players will do anything you ask of them, they are really committed. The players have to do the business, they have to drive it and have their own standards. We have alot of leaders, and hopefully they will enjoy the occasion on Sunday but also try to showcase their standards and give a performance we are looking for”
With one side looking to regain the crown and one looking to defend their throne it will no doubt go down to the wire. You can catch all the action live on KCLR from 3.45pm on Sunday with thanks to Ray Whelan Waste management.
