Kilkenny rugby club’s James Blanchfield says it’s time the Irish team management gave some of the younger ou halfs a chance to prove themselves in the jersey.
Johnny Sexton is still the form number 10 for club and country but has Joey Carbery, the Byrne brothers in Leinster, and more waiting in the wings to take that jersey.
Speaking on the Knock On rugby podcast, James says we should take a chance on these fellas as they’re the future.
“I think it’s time now to go into the next six nations and give Carbery (Joey) a shot, try the Byrnes, one of the two Byrnes from Leinster,” said James.
“Is Billy Burns the guy? I don’t know, we’ll never know, I mean look at young Marcus Smith in England, he’s box office because he’s getting his chance”.
“It’s probably something that, even in the provinces in Ireland, we always seem to just, particularly in Munster and Leinster sometimes, slow to give the younger guys their chance”.
Meanwhile, Kilkenny and Tullow’s junior men’s teams have a rest this weekend in the Leinster League.
Carlow however will play their postponed fixture with Mullingar away on Sunday at 3 o clock.
Elsewhere, the Tullow women are in division one action on Sunday away to Edenderry.
