There were goals galore under the lights in Dunmore on Friday night as Muckalee overcame Thomastown to be crowned Kilkenny’s ladies football county champions.
With both sides bringing the heat throughout an intense first half, it was Muckalee who made more of the chances, taking a 2-08 to 1-02 half-time lead.
Thomastown clawed their way back into the game in the second half with three goals of their own but were left to rue missed points in the third quarter.
Muckalee found the net twice more in the second half, ultimately leaving them with 10 points to spare and a trip to the Leinster junior club championships to look forward to.
With the draws for the Leinster championships already made, Kilkenny will have home advantage against Westmeath’s county champions on 20 November in the preliminary round. Should they make it through that fixture, a date the following weekend against the champions from either Wexford or Kildare await.
Final score: Muckalee 4-13, Thomastown 4-03.
