This Saturday we will be brining you live coverage of the St. Canice’s Credit Union Senior Hurling Championship Relegation Final battle between Rower Inistioge and Erins Own from 1.30pm, live from Clara.

Ahead of the game with caught up with Kilkenny intercounty hurler and Rower Inistigoe midfielder Richie Leahy to get his thoughts on last weekends 3-18 to 1-15 defeat at the hands of last years Intermediate Champions Lisdowney and their upcoming battle with Erins Own.

“After the Lisdowney game, we were a bit down for the week. But there is no point feeling sorry for yourself going into a relegation final. We have to get our thoughts together regroup and just focus on the relegation final”.

It will be 53 years since the Rower last tasted senior success stopping three-in-a-row hopefuls Bennettsbridge in a narrow 3–9 to 3–7 victory which gave the great Eddie Keher his only a Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship medal. Of course 1968 is an age ago, but future glory years may seem like an age away if they suffer defeat this weekend. Overall 2021 has proved to be tough for the Rower who are still searching for their first victory, and Leahy believes tactically they will have to play their own game instead of catering to their opponents strengths;

“For this match we will focus on ourselves. It has not gone the way we wanted this year, we are coming off five losses it is not ideal. We are trying to fix our own game, so on the day I hope we will perform and keep us up for another year”

Rower have been senior since since 2014, with their Castlecomer opponents playing senior since winning the Hanrahan Cup in 2008. When asked by Scoreline what can be done next season if his side remain at senior, to avoid another relegation battle, the Rower man was quick to put focus back on this weekends game;

“We just have to focus on the match at the weekend and get over the line. Comer will give everything. They are having a better season then us. Coming off the Ballycallan game where they only lost by four point, and probably thought they were closer then that. We are looking forward to the match and come 1.30 Saturday we will be ready for it.”

Catch the game live on KCLR from 1.30pm this Saturday on Scoreline on air or online.
