While there’s never too much to write home about for inter-county football in Kilkenny, there’s plenty of internal action this month as the county’s club championships get underway on Sunday.
The draws for the JJ Kavanagh & Sons senior, intermediate and junior competitions were made on Saturday and see the seniors kicking off this coming Sunday afternoon.
Senior football draw
With 12 teams competing at senior this year, eight teams will compete in the opening round of fixtures this Sunday with the remaining four waiting in the quarter-final stages on 14 November.
The first-round fixtures are
- A: Kilmoganny v Dicksboro
- B: Mullinavat v Danesfort
- C: James Stephens v Clara
- D: Muckalee v Railyard
The quarter-final draw then looks as follows
- Winner A v Conahy Shamrocks
- Winner B v Tullogher Rosbercon
- Winner C v Mooncoin
- Winner D v Thomastown
The quarter-finals will be played the week ending Sunday 14 November, with semi-finals the following weekend and the county final played week-ending 28 November.
Intermediate football draw
There are six teams competing at intermediate grade this year with the quarter-finals booked for the week ending Sunday 7 November.
- Quarter-final A: Erin’s Own v Blacks and Whites
- Quarter final B: Graigue-Ballycallan v Lisdowney
The semi-finals (the following weekend) look like
- Winner A v O’Loughlin Gaels
- Winner B v Glenmore
The intermediate county final will be played on the weekend of 21 November.
Junior football draw
Four teams make up the junior football championship this year, so it’s a straight semi-final shootout this Sunday 7 November.
- Windgap v Emeralds
- Carrickshock v Railyard
The junior county final will be played the following weekend.
