Three-time club All-Ireland winning manager Kevin O’Brien has ended his illustrious spell in charge of the Galway club following Sunday’s county final defeat to Mountbellew-Moylough on Sunday.

O’Brien was promoted to the top job in 2016 following his time as a selector under former Mayo football manager Stephen Rochford. The pair won three county titles in-a-row from 2013 to 2015.

Under the stewardship of the Corofin clubman, they would go on to win four consecutive Galway and Connacht titles as well as three club All-Ireland championships in-a-row, becoming the first club to ever achieve such a feat.

Their prolonged period of success came to an end in 2020 when Mountbellew-Moylough defeated them in the Galway SFC semi-final and it was the same club who brought O’Brien’s reign to an end last weekend as they were crowned Galway football champions at the expense of Corofin in an enthralling decider.

O’Brien said: “We have had some great days and I was delighted with the opportunity the club gave me. Teams evolve all the time. We saw that with Mountbellew-Moylough, they were close in recent years and filled the gaps and I have no doubt Corofin will do that as well in the coming years.”

Some of Corofin’s remarkable achievements under O’Brien included a 49-game unbeaten run and 51 victories in 56 championship games.
